Legalization of Cannabis

Justin Trudeau’s got three things going for him; great hair, a great jawline, and great policy reforms. By the end of the summer Trudeau’s liberal government will have fully legalized cannabis for both medicinal and recreational use.

This means that a lot of the barriers between patients and medicinal cannabis will be broken down thanks to a string of private and government-run dispensaries. However, for medicinal users there is still a bit of red tape between them and their ability to claim medicinal cannabis on their health insurance.

There is still a certain stigma surrounding cannabis, with many seeing it as a recreational drug rather than the life-changing and necessary medication it is to thousands of people.

There’s a new service that wants to make sure that everyone who needs a cannabis prescription can get it and can make sure that they can access the medicinal cannabis they need.

Quick, Convenient, and Discreet

NamasteMD is an app that is designed to put you in touch with licensed medical practitioners quickly and conveniently. Unlike some traditional outlets, NamasteMD isn’t going to make you jump through hoops to get your medication. They have a straightforward four step process that you can complete on your phone.

Step 1: Application

The first step is as simple as filling out a form of your personal details. Nothing too intrusive, just your age, name, and contact details. You’ll need to provide a Canadian zip code too. Finally, you’ll be asked to outline any medical conditions you are currently suffering from.

Step 2: ID

To get medical cannabis on the Canadian health service you (obviously) need to be a resident of Canada, and you need to be over 18. This ID can be a passport, a driver’s license, or any other photo ID. Don’t worry about having to go through the arduous process of finding a scanner or anything like that. All you have to do is hold the ID by your face and take a picture with the NamasteMD app. The facial verification software will make sure that it’s legitimate.

Step 3: Proof of Previous Treatments

Canadian law requires that patients have attempted a treatment for their ailment previous to being prescribed medical cannabis. You’ll need to provide NamasteMD with some evidence of a previous treatment. This doesn’t have to be anything too complicated, all you have to do is upload a picture of your medication (painkillers, sleeping tablets, etc), a prescription for a treatment, or a doctor’s note.

Step 4: Face to Face Meeting With a Medical Practitioner

Don’t worry, as with every other step in this app, you won’t have to leave your home. Namaste uses ‘Telemedicine’ technology to allow a single practitioner to see dozens of patients in a single day in a time scale that is convenient for them. When you finish uploading your details and proof of previous treatment to the NamasteMD app, you will be asked to choose a time slot for a consultation.

The consultation will be a 15 minute telemedicine video chat with a qualified professional who will assess your condition, current treatment and assess whether medical cannabis is the correct treatment for you.

Final Step: Approval

After your appointment you should know nearly instantly whether you have been approved for your medical cannabis script or not. It’s that simple! This entire process from start to finish can be done from the comfort of your own home, all you need is the NamasteMD app and an internet connection!
