Marinol (dronabinol) is a synthetic form of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. It is available as a pill.
Marinol is taken orally and enters the bloodstream through the linings of the stomach. Compared to smoked cannabis, Marinol takes longer to act. However, its effects are longer lasting.
Marinol was originally developed by a company called Unimed Pharmaceuticals. The research and development of Marinol was supported by the National Cancer Institute. Marinol was first approved by the FDA in 1985.
