Want to plant a garden in your very own home? Now there’s an app for that.
Meet the Niwa, an indoor hydroponic greenhouse that lets you take care of your plants – including water, feed and humidity – all from an app on your smartphone.
A combination of sensors and an automatic irrigation system makes it easy for anyone to use.
The company behind the invention, a start-up based in the UK, says the Niwa system is designed to let you grow pretty much anything, from vegetables and fruits to herbs and, yes, “medicinal plants” too.
So far, the Niwa has only made it to the prototype stage and still needs extra financing to begin production.
The company is running a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and has so far raised over $35,000 of its $100,000 goal. If they manage to pull it off, the team expects to ship their first units by January 2015.
Although a final price hasn’t been set, early backers can get a Niwa system for $399 or a mini version for $199.
