Following a CNN documentary that aired this summer, Dr. Sanjay Gupta is now working on another medical marijuana programme, this time for the UK audience.
Working closely with local cannabis reform group CLEAR, CNN’s chief medical correspondent is now looking into the medical marijuana situation in the UK.
Last week, CNN’s ‘Sanjay Gupta MD’ featured the story of a 33-year-old British man who recently managed to obtain medical marijuana from the Netherlands through a legal loophole that CLEAR had uncovered.
Jamie Watling suffered multiple spinal fractures that left him relying on strong prescription painkillers, which still failed to provide him with adequate relief.
Under UK federal law, marijuana is strictly prohibited and classified as having no medical value. However, the government has exempted certain entities from this ban, including the cannabis drug company GW Pharmaceuticals.
According to CLEAR, Dr. Gupta is working on a full hour-long documentary that will expose such controversies, and is expected to air in March 2014.
His previous documentary on medical marijuana, called ‘WEED’, featured the story of a young Colorado girl for whom CBD-rich cannabis extract was the only medicine that could treat her severe form of epilepsy.
The airing of ‘WEED’ led to an increase in awareness among families of CBD as a treatment for pediatric epilepsy.
